Uusi vuosikymmen, monella tapaa uusi elämä

Mennyt vuosi, muutaman viimeisen päivän pohdinnat ja eiliset ystävän sanat saivat minut vakuuttuneeksi siitä, että herätän Katalan kujeet unesta. Ensimmäisestä postauksesta tulisi helposti hyvin pitkä, joten koitan tietoisesti lyhentää sitä ja kerron asioista vain pääpiirteittäin.

Koirajuttuja

Surullinen muutos on, että blogin nimeen vaikuttanut katalonianpaimenkoira Geena lukee tekstejä pilvenreunalta. Geena eli pitkän elämän, pari viikkoa vajaa 16,5 -vuotiaaksi. Sen kanssa ehdittiin käydä muutamassa näyttelyssä ja siitä tuli Suomen ja Viron muotovalio. Geenan seuraksi muutti vuoden 2013 alussa shetlanninlammaskoira Pipsa ja vuonna 2015 bordercollie Tera. Pipsa joutui surukseni erinäisten syiden vuoksi muuttamaan uuteen kotiin, joten Tera sai uuden ystävän siskontytöstään Twististä reilu kaksi vuotta sitten.

Vuonna 2013 muutin uuteen kotiin. Siellä pääsin tekemään ja teettämään pientä remonttia ja laittamaan pihaa mieleiseeni kuntoon. Toissakesänä uusittiin terassi yhdessä äidin ja isän kanssa. Suuri kiitos äidille ja isälle suuresta avusta ja kaikesta tekemästänne työstä.

Elämää

Viimeisen vuoden aikana elämä on tuonut eteeni kaikenlaista, josta tulen kertomaan teksteissäni. Käsittelen samaan aikaan tätä ja viime vuotta. Nyt blogi on kuitenkin saanut ensimmäisen tekstinsä vuosiin - teekupponen ja kakkupala perheen seurassa sen kunniaksi!

Koiranpentuja ja koiranäyttelyitä (Puppies and dog shows)

Maanantaina 13.10. siskon Riina -sheltille syntyi kaksi kaunista pentua. Ensin syntyi tricolor -tyttö ja seuraavaksi samanvärinen poika. Tytöllä on enemmän valkoista niskassa ja valkoinen läikkä otsassa. Riina hoitaa pienokaisiaan esimerkillisellä tavalla ja lapsukaiset kasvavat vauhdilla. Sydän on ihan sykkyrällä joka kerran, kun tapaan pennut. Lisää kuvia ja juttua kultasista löytyy siskon blogista.

On Monday 13th November my sister’s sheltie Riina delivered two beautiful puppies. The first one to born was a tricolor female and the next one was a male with the same color. The female has more white on her neck and a small white spot on her forehead. Riina takes remarkably good care of her little ones and the babies grow fast. They just warm my heart every time I see them. You can see more pictures of the puppies in my sister’s blog.

Sunnuntaina käytiin Geenan kanssa näyttelyssä Hämeenlinnassa. Suuren osallistujamäärän vuoksi katalonianpaimenkoirien tuomari oli vaihtunut ja arvostelun teki eestiläinen Maret Kärdi. Hän oli tarkka ja taitava tuomari, joka kirjoitti pitkän ja kuvaavan arvostelun ja lisäksi vielä suusanallisesti kertoi, miksi koira sai juuri tietyn arvosanan. Olin vaikuttunut ja tyytyväinen hänen työskentelyynsä ja arvostan hänen antamansa arvostelun todella korkealle.

Mutta miten Geena sitten pärjäsi? Ensinnäkin se käyttäytyi todella hienosti ja oli iloinen kehässä. Tuomari kehui Geenaa kaikilta osin, paitsi takaliikkeistä, ja hänen mielestään Geena on erittäin hyvä rotunsa edustaja. Se ei siis ole hänen mielestään erinomainen eikä siten sertin arvoinen. Koen silti saaneeni arvostelusta paljon, itse asiassa juuri sen, mitä näyttelystä pitäisikin saada: luotettavan ja kattavan arvion siitä, miten hyvin kyseinen yksilö rotuaan edustaa.

Päivä oli muutenkin mukava. Geenan kasvattaja ja hänen tyttärensä Vilma tulivat katsomaan näyttelyä ihanan ja tasapainoisen, hieman alle puolivuotiaan koiranpentunsa kanssa. Vilma voitti heti lapsiin tottumattoman Geenan luottamuksen ja sai jopa halata Geenaa. Ystäviä heistä tuli :-)

On Sunday I took Geena to a dog show in Hämeenlinna. Because of the great amount of participants the judge for Catalan Sheepdogs had changed to Estonian Maret Kärdi. She was precise and skilled judge who wrote a long and descriptive evaluation and even orally explained why she graded the dog the way she did. I was impressed and happy about the way she worked and I value her assessment very much.

But how did Geena do? First of all she behaved very well and was happy in the ring. The judge praised Geena in every part except the movements of her back legs and according to her Geena is a very good representative of her race. So she is not excellent and therefore not worth a certificate. I still feel that I got a lot of the evaluation, actually just those things that you should get from a dog show: a reliable and comprehensive evaluation of how well the particular individual represents its race.

The day was very nice. Geena’s breeder and her daughter Vilma came to see the dog show and brought their wonderful and balanced, little under six months old puppy with them. Geena, who is not used to children, trusted Vilma at once and even let Vilma hug her. They became friends :-)

Postia (Mail)

Sain perjantaina ihanaa postia ekaluokkalaiselta Vilmalta. Kerron ihan ensimmäiseksi, että Vilman äiti on Geenan kasvattaja ja Geenan veli Rommi asuu heillä. Rommi ja Geena ovat samannäköisiä, tosin Rommi on Geenaa isompi, mutta niinhän pojan kuuluukin olla.

Mutta kerron siitä postista. Vilma on piirtänyt tosi hienon kuvan Geenasta. Kuvassa Geena istuu auringonpaisteessa nurmikolla voittajaruusuke kaulassaan. Ja se on ihan oma karvainen itsensä. Kuvassa on myös nätti sininen kukka ja Geenan kesäherkkuja, metsämansikoita. Piirustus pääsi kunniapaikalle jääkaapin oveen, niin näen sen joka päivä.

Kirjekuoressa oli lisäksi vielä Vilman askartelema ruusuke. Eikä mikä tahansa ruusuke, vaan sellainen, joka annetaan rotunsa kauneimmalle koiralle, eli punakeltainen. Se lähtee viikon kuluttua Hämeenlinnan näyttelyyn meidän onnenkaluksi.

On Friday I got great mail from Vilma. She is a first-grader, whose mother is Geena’s breeder and Geena’s brother Rommi is their older dog. Rommi and Geena look alike, only Rommi is bigger just like a boy should be.

And now I will tell about that mail. Vilma has drawn a beautiful picture of Geena. In the picture Geena is sitting on grass in sunshine a winner’s rosette on her neck. And she looks just like herself. There are also a pretty blue flower and Geena’s favorite berries, strawberries, in the picture. I put the picture on the place of honor on refrigerator door, where I can see it every day.

There was also a rosette, which Vilma had made herself, in the envelope. And it is not just any rosette, but the kind that is given to the most beautiful dog of the race, red and yellow. I will take it to the Hämeenlinna dog show next weekend to bring us good luck.

Kohta alkaa tapahtua (There will be action soon)

Siskon koira Riina saa pentuja luultavasti vuorokauden kuluessa. Mistä siis sen tiedän? No siitä, että Riinan lämpö laski kolmen jälkeen iltapäivällä 37 asteeseen ja se tai sitä alempi lämpö tarkoittaa, että vuorokauden kuluessa alkaa tapahtua. Oi oi, miten jännään ja ihanaa!!!

Tulossa on kaksi pienokaista. Se, ovatko uudet ihanat kultaiset tyttöjä vai poikia ja minkä värisiä ne ovat, onkin sitten yllätys.

My sister's dog Riina will probably get puppies in 24 hours. And how do I know that? Well, because Riina's body temperature decreased to 37 degrees of Celsius after 3.00 PM. That or lower temperature means, that there will be action in next 24 hours. Oh, how exiting and wonderful!!!

She will get two puppies. Whether they will be boys or girls and which they color are remain secret to all of us.

Ehdottomasti kantavana (Definitely pregnant)

Näin Sopun, Ilonan ja Riinan tänään ohimennen, kun vanhemmat poikkesivat mökiltä tullessa tuomaan puolukoita ja suppilovahveroita. Riina on niin selvästi kantavana, että sen toteamiseen ei enää ultraa tarvittaisi. Kylkikarvat osoittavat sivuille sen sijaan että laskeutuisivat alaspäin ja sen sijaan että kyljet kaartuisivat sisäänpäin ja mahan alle, takajalkojen edessä on selvät ulkonemat. Ihanaa!

I met Sopu, Ilona and Riina shortly today, when my parents stopped by to bring me lingonberries and mushrooms on their way home from the summer cottage. Riina is so clearly expecting puppies, that you would not need an ultrasound to proof it anymore. The hair on her sides of her waist point to the sides, not smoothly down like it used to. Also the line of her waist used to turn nice and smoothly from back to belly, but now there is a bump on both sides. Wonderful!

Riina saa pentuja! (Puppies for Riina!)

Siskon nuoremmalle koiralle Riinalle on tulossa pentuja. Riina kävi tänään aamupäivällä ultrassa, ja masussa näkyi kaksi pikkiriikkistä asukkia. Sisko oli saanut oikein ultrakuvan mukaan – en tiennyt, että koirien ultristakin annetaan omistajalle muistoja. Hän lupasi ladata sen lähiaikoina bolgiinsa.

My sister’s younger dog Riina will get puppies. She was taken to ultrasound this morning and the veterinary saw two tiny little doggies in the tummy. My sister even got an ultrasound picture with her – I did not know, that also the dog owners get those. She promised to download it to her blog in the next few days.

Koiranäyttelyistä tuli tosiaan innostuttua. Olen ilmoittanut Geenan 19.10. järjestettävään Hämeenlinnan näyttelyyn, jossa katalat arvostelee ruotsalainen Jahn Stääv. Ensivuoden näyttelyitä on myös tullut jo katsottua, mutta netissä niistä on vielä kovin vähän tarkempaa tietoa. Joo joo, olen hätähousu. Kyllä ne ensivuoden jutut ehtii myöhemminkin.

I really got excited about the dog shows. Geena has been signed up for a dog show in Hämeenlinna on October 19th, and the judge will be Jahn Stääv from Sweden. I have been looking for information about the dog shows next year, but there is not too much of it yet in the internet. Yes, I should leave next year for a while. Those things can be taken care of much later.

Erittäin kaunis Geena (Extreamly beautiful Geena)

Geena on rotunsa kaunein veteraani! Jipii ja hyvä hyvä Geena! Viisas ruotsalaistuomari kehui muun muassa Geenan hyvää kuntoa, kauniita silmiä, liikkeitä ja luonnetta. Turkki saisi kuulemma olla karkeampi, mutta sen jo tiesinkin. Tästä se meidän näyttelyura urkenee.

Kataloita, siis katalonianpaimenkoiria, oli Porvoon näyttelyssä kokonaiset kolme koirulaista, yksi uros ja kaksi narttua. Se toinen nuori tyttökoira oli tuomarin mielestä kauniimpi ja sai sertifikaatin. Geena sai varasertifikaatin. Nuorena koirana käydyissä näyttelyissä Geena ei ollut koskaan sertifikaatin arvoinen, vaikka se erittäin hyväksi rotunsa edustajaksi useimmiten arvioitiinkin.

Ensihätään laitan vain tuollaisen näyttelytähtösen unenhäirintäkuvan. Kunhan saan vanhempien kameralla otetun näyttelyposeerauskuvan, laitan vielä sellaisenkin.

Geena is the best veteran of her race! Yahoo ja very well done, Geena! The wise Swedish judge complemented for example Geena’s good condition, beautiful eyes, movements and temperament. According to him her coat is a bit too soft, but I knew that already. Here starts our dog show career.

There were altogether three Catalonian Sheepdogs in the dog show in Porvoo, one male and two females. The other young female was in judge’s opinion more beautiful and got certificate. Geena got reserve certificate. As a young dog she never got even that, however she was mostly graded as very good representative of her race.

At this point I only show this sleep disturbance photo of the dog show star. As soon as I get a real dog show picture from my parents, I will put it to my blog, too.

Lisää suunnitelmia (More plans)

Olin taas maanantain ja tiistain työn vuoksi reissussa, enkä tiistai-iltana vielä kunnolla purkanut matkalaukkua. Kun keskiviikkoaamuna aloin pakata työvaatteita pyörälaukkuihin, Geena ilmaisi varsin selkeästi mielipiteensä matkustelusta. Se kävi kerälle avoimeen matkalaukkuun. Tuo ei ole mikään valtava kapsäkki, vaan pieni lentolaukku, jonka saa ottaa matkustamoon.

Lauantaina onkin jo Porvoon koiranäyttely, jonne Geena menee veteraaniluokkaan. Saa nähdä, mitä tuomari on hauvasta mieltä. Toivottavasti tänään alkanut flunssa, jonka takia lähdin tänään kesken päivän töistä kotiin, helpottaa siihen mennessä. Mukavaa mökkeilyäkin olisi luvassa viikonloppuna.

On Monday and Tuesday I traveled again because of my work. On Tuesday evening I did not yet completely unpack my luggage. When I was packing my work clothes into my bicycle bags on Wednesday morning, Geena gave her clear opinion about traveling. She went to sleep in my open luggage. That is not a huge bag but a small one, the kind that is allowed to take with to the cabin.

On Saturday Geena will take part in the veteran class of the dog show in Porvoo. We’ll see, what the judge will say about my doggy. Hopefully the cold that hit me today, and of which I came earlier home from work, will give up before that. During the weekend we would also have a possibility to spend some nice time at the summer cottage.



Reissun aikana oli tullut Interweave Knits:n uusi numero. Siitä päätyi suunnitelmalistalle tämä punainen New Pea Coat -takki, joka on kaunista ja hieman erikoista neulosta. Myös sininen Estes Vest –olisi kiva toteuttaa.

During my trip the new issue of Interweave Knits had come with the mail. This red New Pea Coat has ended up to my “to do” list. The pattern is beautiful and quite different of the usual ones. I would also like to knit the blue Estes Vest.

Myrtle Leaf ja Sherid (Myrtle Leaf and Sherid)

Geena tuli auttamaan Myrtle Leaf:n kuvauksessa. Se piti ystävällisesti kiinni koko ajan väärään suuntaan vinksottavasta puikosta ja vähän huivin yläreunastakin. Eihän tuo huivi vieläkään kovin pitkällä ole, mutta on sitä nyt melkein tuplamäärä edelliseen bloggaukseen verrattuna.

Geena helped me with photographing the Myrtle Leaf Shawl. She kindly held a needle, which otherwise would have been in bad place. I have not knit the shawl too much yet, but there is about a twice the amount of it than when I last time blogged a picture of it.

Boring, I’ll go to sleep.

Sherid –pipo on melkein puolessa välissä. Sekä malli että minulle uusi Maija–lanka ovat mukavia neuloa ja työ etenee hyvää vauhtia. Täytyy verrata kokoa johonkin vahaan pipoon, kun äkkiseltään mittaamalla ja ohjeen mukaan tehtynä siitä vaikuttaisi tulevan liian korkea. Mittauksesta riippuen teen joko enää kesken olevan mallikerran tai vielä toisenkin ennen kuvion muutoksen alkua.

I have knit nearly half of the Sherid hat. Both the model and Maija yarn, which is new for me, are nice to knit and the hat is progressing in a good speed. I have to compare the size with some old hat, because it seems like the hat would get too high, if I just follow the instructions. Depending of the outcome, I will either finish this motif or knit yet another one before the pattern change.

Mökkeilyä (At summer cottage)

Vähän myöhässä kulkee tämä bloggaus, mutta ehkä se sallitaan näin lomalla. Olin viime viikolla muutaman päivän rentoutumassa mökillä Geenan, vanhempien ja heidän koiriensa Sopun ja Ilonan kanssa. Saatiin iso siika, made ja noin 12 muikkua, mikä on meidän järveltä tosi hyvä saalis kolmessa päivässä. Lisäksi löydettiin oikein mukava pussillinen kanttarelleja. Mustikkatilanne sen sijaan näytti kehnolta.

Koirien kanssa kävelyillä ollessa syötiin pienen mökkitien varrelta metsämansikoita. Geenakin tykkäsi niistä, samoin kuin niistä vähäisistä mustikoista, joita löytyi.

I keep updating my blog late, but maybe it is allowed during holiday. At the end of last week I was relaxing at the summer cottage with Geena, my parents and their dogs Sopu and Ilona. We got a big whitefish, a burbot and 12 vendaces. We also found quite a nice bag of mushrooms. However, there will not be too much of blueberries.

When we were walking with the dogs, we ate some wild strawberries which were growing by a narrow road. Geena liked them too, as well as the small amount of blueberries that we found.

Mökillä ehdin vähän neuloakin. Snyltä saamastani Drops Alpacasta on tulossa Drops Safranin kanssa saman firman ohjeella neuletakki. Etu- ja takakappaleet ovat valmiit ja ensimmäinen hiha on puolessa välissä. Työ etenee tosi nopeasti! Näin kaksinkertaisella langalla neuloessa on vaan välillä tarkastettava, että molemmat langat on neulottu ja ettei joku silmukka ole tullut jaettu kahdeksi silmukaksi. Muutaman kerran on pitänyt purkaa ja puolikkaita silmukoita on nosteltu tavallista useammin.

At the summer cottage I had some time to knit too. I’m knitting a cardigan of Drops Alpaca, which I got from my secret pal, together with Drops Safran. The pattern is from the same company. Front and back pieces are finished and the first sleeve half done. This is very fast to knit! I just have to be careful when knitting with two yarns. I easily knit only half stitch of knit one stitch twice. I have had to undo the knitting a few times and to pick up the half knitted stitches more often than usual.

Pirpanalle vielä peukkuja viikonlopuksi!!! Kety on henkisesti valmistautunut ja valmis hoitamaan hommansa täydellä sydämellä.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed for Pirre for this weekend! Your care taker is mentally prepared and ready to do her part with all her heart.

Hopeaa! (Silver!)

Onneksi olkoon Pirre ja Anu! He nousivat tänään Varkaudessa agilityn SM-joukkuekisojen toiseksi korkeimmalle korokkeelle mini-luokassa. He kiisivät radan yli kuusi sekuntia alle ihanneajan ja ilman virheitä. Myös muiden joukkueen parien suoritukset ovat varmasti olleet hienoja. Tulokset löytyvät VarPS:n sivuilta.

Huomenna ovat vuorossa yksilökisat, joihin Anu osallistuu sekä Pirren että Riinan kanssa. Geena pitää kannuksia ja minä peukkuja ja varpaita pystyssä. Tsemppiä!

Congratulations Pirre and Anu! They are the silver medalists of today’s agility Finnish championships mini team competition. They flew the course more than six seconds under the estimated time and without any mistakes. Also the performances of the other team members must have been great. The results can be found on the web page of VarPS.

The individual competitions are tomorrow and Anu will take part in them with both Pirre and Riina. Geena keeps her paws and I will keep my fingers crossed for them. Go on!

Oliko tämä neuleblogi? (Is this a knit blog?)

Onko tämä blogi muuttunut kävelyblogigsi? Ei sentään, urakka oli vaan sen verran iso, että pakkohan siitä oli kertoa.

Äiti sai äitienpäivälahjaksi Nallesta neulotut Bombadil –sukat. Olin päätellyt varret hieman liian tiukkaan, joten korjasin ne heti sunnuntaina. Äiti oli tyytyväinen uusiin sukkiinsa.

Huivimysteeri on alkanut. Aloin neuloa ensimmäistä vihjettä muutaman päivän sen ilmestymisen jälkeen, joten olen hieman jäljessä jo tässä vaiheessa. Toinen vihje ilmestyi eilen, enkä ole vieläkään saanut ensimmäistä valmiiksi. Yritän kiriä tämän viikon aikana. Kesätoppi ei ole juurikaan edennyt edellisestä kuvasta, josko yhtään.

Neulomattomuuteen löytyy kuitenkin hyviä syitä, joista Reitti 2000:n kävely on yksi. Lisäksi meillä oli lauantaina taloyhtiön pihatalkoot, joiden järjestelyissä olin mukana. Itse talkoisiin meni seitsemän tuntia.

Sunnuntainakin oli puuhaa, olin katsomassa Sheltti-show:ta Espoon Puolarmaarissa. Kun siirtolapuutarhan laidalla oltiin, pihoja oli pakko päästä katselemaan tapahtuman jälkeen vähän lähempää. He ovat kerta kaikkiaan ihania!

Is this knit blog turned in to a walking blog? No, it is not, the project was just so big that I had to tell about it.

My mother got Bombadil socks of Novita Nalle yarn for mother’s day. The bind off was a bit too tight, so fixed them already on Sunday. Mother liked her new socks.

The mystery shawl has started. I started to knit the first clue a few days later than it was published, so I am already some days behind the schedule. The second clue came yesterday and I still have not finished the first one. I will try to catch up this week. I have not proceeded with the top too much, if at all.

There are good reasons for not knitting, one of them being the Route 2000. In addition I was one of the three people organizing the community effort of our apartment house on Saturday. We worked seven hours on Saturday.

On Sunday I was watching a Sheltie show in Puolarmaari Espoo. There are very beautiful gardens in Puolarmaari, so we went to see them after the show.

Sä kuvaat taas noita... (You only take photos of those...)

Geenalla oli selkeät mielipiteet mallitilkun kuvaamisesta: leikkiminen on kivempaa ja kuvaan pitää päästä mukaan. Ensin se iski silmänsä lankakerään ja alkoi leikkiä kissaa. Käytiin sitten välillä leikkimässä Geenan omalla lelulla, jonka jälkeen se päätti tulla mukaan mallitilkkukuvaan, ja hyvinhän se siihen sopikin, valitsi jopa itse sopivan paikan ja hyvän poseerausasennon. Siis mallitilkku oli tuossa ennen hauvaa. Ja kyllä, kuvaan välillä tekeleitäni sen saman sängyn päällä, jossa Geena ja minä nukumme.

Tuo on siis mehiläishuivin mallitilkku. Siitä tuli kerta yrittämällä sopivan kokoinen. Helmien kiinnittäminenkin sujui hyvin. Nyt vaan odotellaan 11:ttä päivää, jolloin ensimmäinen vihje tulee.

Geena had clear opinions about taking photos: playing is much more fun and she must be in the picture. First she had her eyes on skein and started to play cat. We played a while with her own toy, after which she decided to get in the picture. Well, I find that she is a good detail in it, she even choose a good place and way of posing by herself. The swatch was there before the dog. And yes, I sometimes take pictures of my handiwork on the same bed than both Geena and I sleep in.

So that is the swatch of the bee shawl. I got just the right size on my first attempt. Also attaching the beads went well. Now I’m waiting for the 11th of May, when the first clue will be given.

Tänään hankin langat kesätoppia varten. Minun piti jo viime keväänä tehdä kesäksi pusero tai toppi, mutta silloin en löytänyt sopivaa mallia. Aikaisemmin tänä vuonna tilaamassani ”Lace Style” –kirjassa ihastuin heti tuohon ”Lace-Eedged Corset” –toppiin. Lankojen kanssa kävi niin hyvin, että kotoisat Novitan Tennessee ja Virkkauslanka sopivat hyvin korvaamaan kirjan mallissa käytettyjä ulkomaisia lankoja. En varmaan olisi raaskinutkaan ostaa 100 %:sta silkkilankaa. Kunhan saan salaisuusprojektini valmiiksi, aloitan tuon topin.

Today I got yarn for a summer top. I meant to knit one last summer, but I never found a good pattern. Earlier this year I ordered Lace Style book and found the charming Lace-Edged Corset in it. Another good thing is that I can use familiar Tennessee and Virkkauslanka yarns of Novita instead of the foreign ones recommended in the book. After all, I don’t think I would have bought 100 % silk yarn. As soon as I finish my secret project, I will begin to knit this top.

Ulkoiluvappu (Labor Day outdoors)

Jopas oli Vappusää - kerrassaan mahtava! Niin kuin varmasti moni muukin, vietin suurimman osan päivästä ulkoillessa. Hypättiin Geenan kanssa heti yhdeksän jälkeen bussiin ja parin vaihdon jälkeen päädyimme Pirttimäen ulkoilumajalle. Sieltä kävelimme noin 10 km Luukin kautta Lahnukseen. Luukissa pidimme evästauon. Geena sai murutikun ja minä kylmäsavulohileivät. Sai Geenakin ihan pienen murusen lohesta. Jollain koiraporukalla oli jopa jälkitreenit Luukissa.

Tuo metsäulkoilu ei meille - tai minulle - riittänyt, vaan vielä piti lähteä kävelemään vanhemmilta siskon, hänen koirien ja Geenan kanssa siskolle viiden kilometrin matkaa. Geena kyllä kertoi puolessa välissä matkaa, että kävely saisi jo riittää, ja niin me hidastimmekin vauhtia. Geena sai ansaitun palauttavan hieronnan, kun pääsimme perille.

Luonto on kyllä niin kaunis tähän aikaan vuodesta! Polkujen varret ovat täynnä valko- ja sinivuokkoja, lehdet puhkeamaisillaan ja juuri puhjenneet ja maa vihertyy silmissä. Lintujen laulu, purojen solina ja auringonpaiste kruunasivat kaiken.

Geenan mielestä sekä meri- että järvivedet ovat jo riittävän lämpimiä uimista varten. Tosin kovin pitkään sekään ei vedessä viihtynyt. Äiti lupaili kokeilla tänä viikonloppuna, joko Mäntyharjulla tarkenee veteen mennä. Hyrrr, kyllä se mahtaa kuitenkin olla kylmää.

The weather of the Labor Day was just perfect! Like many other people, I believe, I spent most of the day outdoors. Geena and I took a bus right after 9 o’clock, changed the bus couple of times and found ourselves in the Pirttimäki hut. From there we hiked via Luukki hut to Lahnus, about 10 km. In Luukki we had our lunch. Geena got her own dog snack and I had a sandwich with smoked salmon. Geena got a tiny bit of the fish, too. In Luukki there was a group of people with dogs, and they were obviously training tracking.

The hike was not enough for us – or for me, that is. We walked also from my parent’s house to my sisters with her and her dogs (five more kilometers). On the half way Geena told us that she had had enough of walking for that day, so we slowed down. Geena got a well deserved relaxing massage, when we got to my sisters.

The nature is so beautiful this time of the year! The path sides are full of flowers (anemone nemorosa and hepatica nobilis), the trees are just getting or have just got leafs and the land gets greener every minute. The sounds of birds and streams and the sun shine crown it all.

Geena thinks that both the sea and lake waters are warm enough for swimming. However, she did not spend too long time in the water. My mother talked about maybe trying to swim at the summer cottage this weekend. Hrrr, I think that the water must still be too cold.

Kurssilla (Training)

Olen viettänyt tämän päivän Kauniaisissa Vapaaehtoisen pelastuspalvelun eli VAPEPAn etsintäkurssilla. Kyseessä oli peruskurssin todella mielenkiintoinen teoriaosuus. Yllätyin, miten laajaa toiminta on, miten monen eri asian taitajaa siinä on mukana ja miten monta tekijää on etsintätilanteessa otettava huomioon. Huomenna on luvassa myös maastoharjoitusta. Luvassa on kylmää ilmaa ja vesisadetta, joten saadaan heti aimo annos toden tuntua.

Kurssille ja pelastustoimintaan olen päätynyt työkaverini kannustamana. Olen ollut muutaman kerran talven aikana hänen mukanaan hakukoiratreeneissä. Kovasti toivon, että joskus voisin kouluttaa myös oman koiran toimintaan.

Mutta kirjoitetaanpa nyt vähän noista käsitöistäkin. Wabi-sabi ei todellakaan ole vielä valmistunut. Se on tosin enää hapsujen viimeistelyä ja pingottamista vaille valmis, joten vähästä se on enää kiinni.

Toiseksi olen alkanut neuloa yhtä lahjaa ja saanut sen jo puoliväliin valmiiksi. Uutta toteutustapaa tuohon lahjaan kokeilen.

Kävin eilen työn jälkeen palauttamassa rikkoutuneen pyöröpuikon. En voi kuin kehua liikkeestä saamaani palvelua. Myyjä oli samaa mieltä kuin minäkin, ettei puikolle noin pitäisi käydä, ja korvasi vahingon uudella tuotteella. Sain tilalle numeron 3 ebenpuiset sukkapuikot. Ebenpuisia puikkoja minulla ei vielä ollutkaan enkä ole sellaisia koskaan kokeillut, joten olen vaihtoon erittäin tyytyväinen. Tällä hetkellä ei ole suunnitteilla mitään neuletta, joihin noita puikkoja tarvitsisin, mutta kokeilen niitä kyllä heti kun mahdollista.

Ja vielä viimeisenä asiana, liityin mukaan Slow-Bee mysteeriin. Ensimmäistä kertaa olen mukana KAL -projektissa. Langaksi olen suunnitellut Wetterhoffin Veeraa, mutta sen hankinta ja saatavuus on vielä epävarmaa. Valmistajalta lankaa saisi toki netin kautta tilattua, mutta värikarttaa ei netistä löydy, enkä tahtoisi tuurillakaan tilata. Koetan ehtiä maanantaina poiketa Menita Outlet:ssa katsomassa, josko heiltä löytyisi apua. Onkohan mukana jo muitakin suomalaisia?

I have spent the day in Kauniainen on a theory part of a course of finding lost people (http://www.vapepa.fi/). I was surprised how many people are involved in this, how many special skills are needed and how many things have to be considered during a rescue operation. Tomorrow we will go out for the practical part of training. The weather forecast predicts cold and rainy weather, so we will face reality on that part at once.

My friend introduced this activity to me last autumn. Since then I have participated with the rescue dog training few times. I hope very much that one day I could train my own dog for this purpose.

And now something about knitting. I did not finish the Wabi-sabi yet, but iIt lacks very little.

I have also started to knit a gift and I’m on the half way with it. I’m trying some new techniques for the present.

Yesterday after word I took the broken needle back. I can only compliment the service in the shop. The sales person agreed with me with the fact that a needle should not break like that and gave me a new product as a replacement. I got 3 mm wooden double end needles. (What is that black wood called in English?) I did not have any needles of that wood before, so I’m very happy. At the moment I have not planned a knitting project in which I could test those needles, but I will do it as soon as possible.

Last but not least, I have joined the Slow-Bee-mystery, which is my first KAL ever. I have planned to use Wetterhof Veera, but I’m not sure where to get it. I could order it in the internet, but there are no color charts in the internet and I would not want to try my luck. I’ll try to stop at Menita Outlet yarn shop on Monday to see if they could help me. I wonder if other Finns have joined this KAL?

Geena, Vihreä Vyyhti ja muuta (Geena, Vihreä Vyyhti and other things)

Tässä uusin kuva kultaiseta Geenani. Käytiin muutama päivä sitten läheisellä kalliolla napsimassa kunnon kuvasarja, kun äiti tarvitsi hyvää kuvaa Geenasta.

Harmaasta Tukholman tuomisesta on tulossa tosiaan se Revontulihuivi. Ensimmäinen kerä on jo käytetty ja jälkimmäinen menossa. Lanka liukuu hieman tottumaani huonommin neulottaessa ja välillä on vermistettava, etteivät silmukat jää liian löysiksi. Käsiin jää vähän rasvainen tuntu, mikä ei tosin haittaa mitään. Jospa tuo valmistuisi pääsiäisen pyhinä.

The gray yarn from Stockholm is turning into a Revontuli shawl. One skein has been used and the second one is currently being knitted. The yarn does not slide as well as I have used to and I have to watch that to stitches will not get too loose. The yarn leaves a slightly greasy feeling on hands, but it does not matter. Maybe I will finish this shawl during Easter holidays.

Tosi nopsaa palvelua oli Vihreässä Vyyhdissä. Perjantaina siellä kävin, eikä tahtomaani tuotetta ollut kuin muualla varastossa, niin tiistaina jo oli paketti töistä tullessa ovella odottamassa. Ihana postinjakaja oli sen siihen jättänyt, niin ei tarvinnut postista lähteä hakemaan. Kuvan tästäkin lisään vasta SNY -kauden jälkeen - ihan varmuuden vuoksi.

The service in Vihreä Vyyhti was very fast. I visited the shop on Friday, but they did not have the product I wanted. On Tuesday, when I got home from work, there was a parcel waiting for me on my door. Postman had been very nice to leave it there, so I did not have to go to the post office. I will post the picture of what was in the parcel after the secret pal season is over - just in case.

Hyvä Riina ja Anu! (Well done, Riina and Anu!)

Siskoni Anu pääsi tänään shelttinsä Riinan (kuvassa) kanssa agilitiyn kolmosluokkaan upealla nolla-tuloksella! He voittivat luokkansa 3,91 sekuntia toiseksi tullutta paria nopeammalla ajalla. Onneksi olkoon!

Myös äiti teki hienon radan ykkösluokassa Sopu-sheltin kanssa, alle ihanneajan eikä yhtään ratavirhettä. He saivat ensimmäisen kolmesta kakkosluokkaan vaadittavasta tuloksesta. Onnea myös teille!

My sister Anu and her Shetland sheepdog Riina (picture) got to 3rd class in agility today due to their fantastic work on the course! They won their class with 3.91 seconds faster time than 2nd pair. Congratulations!

Also my mother did very well with her Shetland sheepdog Sopu. They got no fault points from either the course or the time. This is their first of three results needed to get to the 2nd class. Well done, you too!

Olen nyt myös ETY (I'm VSF)

Katsokaas, mitä Ihana Siskoni oli tuonut työpäivän aikana ulko-oveeni roikkumaan! Kortissa luki, että kyseessä on ystävänpäivätervehdys kahdelle ETY:lle eli erittäin tärkeille ystäville, siis Geenalle ja minulle. Samoin siinä luki, että olen nyt sekä ETY että KETY, joka puolestaan tarkoittaa kenneltyttöä ja on agility-maailmassa hyvin arvostettu termi. Kiitos ja halaus!
