Liikuntakärpänen on muutekin puraissut melko kovaa.

Neulomista, pyöräilyä ja italiaa (Knitting, cycling and Italian)

Tässäpä tulee kuva viime viikolla Tampereella valmistuneesta neuletakista!

Here is a picture of the cardigan that I finished at Tampere last week. It looks a bit funny in the picture because of the ribbing. Unfortunately it does not fit me well enough, even though I tried to recalculate the stitches. I hope to find someone who it fits, so that I do not have to hide it in a closet.

On Tuesday I met a great puppy, Maisa, who is the newest family member of Geena’s breeder. Maisa is Belgian Shepherd Dog Malinois and was 12 weeks old when we met.

On Friday my colleague gave me a ride from Tampere to Pori, where we took part in the cycling part of Kalevan kierros. The route was 63 kilometers long, fist half with nice leading wind and last half with not so nice headwind. The temperature was about 18 degrees of Celsius and the sky was half cloudy. Very good weather for cycling! It took 2 hours and little less than 23 minutes for me to get to the goal, which was better than I expected.

My plan is to travel to Italy next summer for hiking. Yes, I have not recovered of the alpine fever which I cached last month. I signed up for an Italian course. Maybe then I will manage with some Italian in a year.

Kaunis Kranjska Gora (Beautiful Kranjska Gora)

Olipa ihana loma Slovenian Kranjska Gorassa! Tuli patikoitua ja rentouduttua, arkiset asiat unohtuivat reissussa. Voin lämpimästi suositella paikkaa lomakohteeksi kaikille ulkona liikkumisesta kiinnostuneille.

I had a wonderful vacation in Kranjska Gora Slovenia! I hiked and relaxed, and forgot the everyday matters during the trip. I can warmly recommend the village for anyone who is interested in outdoor activities. It is very clean there, the people are friendly and speak at least English and German well, nature is beautiful and air is clean and fresh.

Kuvassa onkin alempi Spodnji Martuljkov:n putous.

The first excursion was a not so hard. It was a good thing that we did not climb so high on the first day. We walked from Kranjska Gora (810 meters above sea level) to Zgornji Martuljkov water fall (about 1100 m asl). During our walk it rained quite heavily, but it did not matter much. I could not take a picture of that beautiful water fall, because my camera would have got wet in the rain. This picture is of the lower Spodnji Martuljkov water fall.

A dog started to walk with us in the morning and followed us the whole excursion. I was sure he would turn back on the village border, but he wanted to come along.

On Wednesday we went for a more challenging hike. We wanted to take a bus to Vršič (1611 m), but there was not enough room for all of us. So our local guide organized two cars to take the rest of us up. From Vršič we hiked to the top of Slemenova špica (1911 m). While walking down to Tamar valley, we saw a lot of snow and ice, which had not yet melted. We walked back to Kranjska Gora trough Planica valley. On the way we looked at the Planica ski jump with respect (it is the biggest in the world), and wondered, how anyone can jump of it. The ski jump itself looked very different than in the winter on TV, somehow it looked like it had seen its best days, but after all it is not made to be used in the summer. At the village of Podkoren we saw the giant slalom slope, where the World Cup competition of Kranjska Gora takes place. So I have some more knowledge of sports, too.

On Wednesday we had an excursion to Bled, Ljubljana and Postojna caves. Bled is a town about 30 minutes from Kranjska Gora and in the lake Bled there is the only island in Slovenia. We stopped for an hour, on which time I walked around the eastern end of the lake and looked at the views. There was a track for rowers on the lake and some of them were training. I heard that the Slovenian rowers are one of the best in the world.

Ljubljana was just as kind and clean as Kranjska Gora. It is actually the smallest capital in Europe and the atmosphere is very nice. At first I went to see a part of the city called Krakovo, which is south from the center. People grow vegetables there to be sold on the market place, and because of that and the small houses, it felt like I was in a village. From the castle of Ljubljana it was a great view above the city.

Komea luola olikin. Menimme ensin pienellä junalla syvemmälle luolaan, josta jatkoimme kävellen parin kilometrin kierroksen. Luolia on yhteensä 24 kilometriä kolmessa eri kerroksessa, joista keskimmäisessä me olimme. Samalle opastetulle kierrokselle sattui englantilainen poikakuoro, joka lauloi meille luolaston viimeisessä osassa ”konserttisalissa” kolme kappaletta. Olmia (ihmiskala, Proteus anguinus) emme kuitenkaan nähneet.

After lunch and a bit of shopping we continued to south to Postojna dripstone cave. What a great cave it was. We took a small train deeper in the cave and then walked about a two kilometers tour. There is 24 kilometers of the caves all together in three levels, of which we were on the middle. We had an English boy choir on the same guided tour with us, and on the last part of the cave ”The Concert Hall” they sang three songs for us. However, we did not see Proteus anguinus, the human fish, which I would have wanted to see.

Because the hike to Triglav was postponed one day, I rented a mountain bike on Friday. First I rode to the Peč (1508 m) on the border of Slovenia, Italy and Austria. To save my strength for the next day I took a less steep way up. On the top there was a great view especially to Austria. The way to the village of Rateče was all downhill. It was surprisingly hard for palms and I had to stop a couple of times to let them rest. Before heading back to Kranjska Gora I continued to beautiful Lago di Fusine lake in Italy to have lunch.

Lauantaiaamuna lähdettiin oppaan ja kuuden matkalaisen voimin Slovenian korkeimmalle vuorelle Triglav:lle. Ajoimme ensin autolla Mojstranan kylän kautta Krman laakson perimmäiselle parkkipaikalle 946 metrin korkeuteen. Sieltä alkoi viikon kovin patikkamatka, nousu 2515 metrin korkeuteen Triglavski Dom –majatalolle.

On Saturday morning we, a guide and six travelers, started our journey to the Slovenia’s highest mountain Triglav. First we drove by Mojstrana village to furthest parking lot in Krma valley in 946 meters. From there we started to hike to Triglavski Dom, a hut in 2515 meters. On the way we saw a marmot and a lot of beautiful flowers. For example Cyclamen purpurascens, which does not grow in Finland.

After having some lunch our guide Tadej went up to the top (2864 m) with me and another person of the group. We got a rope and helmets for out safety. The rope had to be tight at all times and the guide was always above us to take care of the safety. Those last over 300 meters were not so hard, because we went on with a slow speed.

The view on the top was rugged and barren. On the south side the clouds cleared of and we could see far. On the north side we could see nothing, there were only clouds. At some point, when we walked on the ridge, it felt funny when we could only see while in addition to the ridge. It was impossible to know how high up we were or what kind of a drop would be right next to us.

The way down from the top went also well with our experienced guide. Part of the mountain was so steep, that we had to go backwards, because it would have been otherwise impossible. I have to admit that without the guide and safety equipment I would not have climbed to top, that much I was worried about getting down. Back at the hut I felt like a winner. After we got back, a couple went up. The two last had to wait until the morning.

Our room was clean but very small, only about 8 square meters. There were two two-layer beds, which were 120 cm wide - sleeping facilities for 8 people. None of us slept well.

The wake-up was before six o’clock. Outside there was a terribly hard wind, a bit less than 200 meters per second, which means that it blew almost at the speed of a hurricane. After waiting for a couple of hours the wind did not show enough signs of calming, so we had to start heading down. The two last members of our group did not get to the top of Triglav.

The way back to the Krma valley went fast when comparing to the climb of the previous day. After we got back to Kranjska Gora a heavy rain started. Luckily we did not get wet. A nap at the hotel was well deserved.

Maanantaina ehdin vielä käydä pienellä kävelyllä, siis edellisiin päiviin verrattuna pienellä. Pyysin aamupalalla hotelilla lupaa käyttää saunan suihkua ja lainata pyyhettä palattuani, koska jouduin jo luovuttamaan huoneeni aamulla, ja se onnistuikin mukavasti. Niinpä kävelin vielä Vršič:n suuntaan katsomaan venäläistä kappelia (1158 m) ja palasin toista reittiä joen vartta pitkin takaisin.

On Monday I had enough time for a short walk – compared to the previous days, that is. After the breakfast the hotel personnel agreed that I could use the shower at the sauna and borrow a towel, when I returned (I had to check out in the morning). So I walked to the direction of Vršič to see the Russian Chapel (1158 m) and came back on another way, by a river.

Istuessani bussissa matkalla lentokentälle yritin lukea mukana ollutta kirjaa.

When I sat in the bus on the way to the airport I tried to read a book. It was impossible to concentrate, when I could not keep my eyes of the mountains. I wish I could have taken them with me!

Mehiläishuivi ja Naisten Kymppi (Bee shawl and Naisten Kymppi)

Heräsin aamulla etureidet maitohapoilla eilisen juoksun jäljiltä, mutta silti innokkaana lähtemään työkavereiden kanssa kävelemään Naisten Kymppiä. Jalat vertyivät kävellessäni bussiterminaalista stadionille ja kävely tuntui mukavalta. Kovasti olisi tehnyt mieli lähteä jouksioiden matkaan.

Tänään on ilmestynyt jo kolmas vihje, eli viikon olen jäljessä.

In the morning I woke up feeling yesterdays run in my thighs, but still I was eager to get to walk Naisten Kymppi with my colleagues. (Naisten Kymppi is a yearly even for women. The participants can choose if they want to run, jog or walk 10 km.) When I walked from Helsinki bus and coach terminal to the Olympic Stadium, my legs started to feel better and it felt good to walk. I would very much have wanted to go along with the runners. Luckily I had agreed with my colleagues to walk with them, so I could control myself. Afterwards we relaxed in the sauna and enjoyed a delicious meal. The day was very nice and the company great.

The first clue of the Slow-Bee has been knit. The third one has been published today, so I am a week behind the schedule. The clues were supposed to come slowly, but these first two ones would have required quite fast knitting. Well, now it should get slower. And I can always print the clues and knit just the speed that is good for me – there is no reason to get stressed because of this.

Kävelyurakasta (About the walking project)

Oh how tired I was on Tuesday evening – and still on Wednesday. I do not know when I have slept as well as I did. I will tell more about our journey.

We were quite tensed before leaving our parents house in the morning. We had not slept enough and we even had words with each other, but luckily we soon got to a better mood. We were a bit nervous about the next night, because we did not know for sure where we would spend it. According to the weather forecast there would be frost during the night. We were unsure where to get clean water, so we had bought water cleaning tablets from the pharmacy. In addition, the food is also always a big question mark, when making a new kind of sport for the first time.

We started walking on Monday morning from Pasila railway station at 8.o0 am and walked to Laakso, where the route begins. The first few kilometers were easy and there was some light rain. Luckily the rain was supposed to stop, but the temperature would be quite low. The wind was supposed to be light, 6 meters per second. Even that it was easy to walk we tried to have a couple of minutes brakes regularly, so that we would have more energy later.

We got to fill our water bottles with tab water in Paloheinä outdoor center. We had not drunk much yet, but we thought that it is important to get certainly clean water. We tried to take care of drinking enough and getting the required energy right from the beginning.

When we got to Vantaa, the rain had stopped. In Myyrmäki we saw the water tower, which is familiar to us from the warm up walks of several elimination competitions for agility world championships, we just passed it from the other side. We started to feel the difference between walking on asphalt or on a sand roads in Varisto and waked on edge of the road as much as possible. On the north side of the Kehä III road we stopped to eat for the first time. We had started to walk a bit slower, so it was necessary to stop for a little longer time and get some energy. After this first longer brake it was easier to take regular brakes.

Pian matkaa jatkettuamme olo tuntui taas paljon paremmalta. Sisko teki jossain vaiheessa vastaavan liikkeen.

Matka eteni mukavasti Rinnekotia kohti. Poikkesimme reitin varressa olevaan Suur-Helsingin golfkeskukseen, josta saimme taas vettä.

Pitää antaa asiasta Vihdille palautetta, sillä muilta osin reitti on kuljettavissa ilman karttaa.

Päästyämme perille aloimme katsella mahdollisia makuupussin paikkoja. Nähtyämme opasteen rantasaunalle päätimme käydä katsomassa, millainen kuisti siellä olisi. Löysimmekin nukkumiseen vallan mainion ja tuulelta suojaisan verannan.

Siskon nukkumapaikaksi tuli penkki. Minä puolestani vedin betonilattialla olleet kaksi ruohomattoa päällekkäin ja laitoin makuualustani ja –pussini niille. Saatuamme vaihdettua yöasut, urheilukerrastot ja microfleece –asut, päälle söimme kunnolla, hoitelimme jalkojemme rakkoja ja venyttelimme. Siinä venytellessämme kaksi vartijaa tuli paikalle tarkistamaan, että saunan ovi on lukossa. He vain tervehtivät meitä ystävällisesti ja jatkoivat sitten matkaa.

When we left the paths of Varisto behind us, we hardly saw any other people. Only two mountain bikers passed us. The wind had got harder and was more likely to blow 16 than 6 meters per second, directly from north. When we got closer to Serena water park, we decided to stop there to fill our water bottles and to eat something. However it was closed and we stopped to eat our own food. The water bottles we filled after a couple of kilometers on the side of Myllyjärvi beach and used the first of water cleaning tablets. We had another longer brake, because our muscles had not yet got the energy from the food that we had eaten a short while before. We stayed in dressing room of the empty beach, where we were protected of the wind, and had some energy gel.

Soon after we continued to walk, we felt a lot better. On a path of Luukki I screamed and jumped away from a snake before I noticed it was dead. My sister did the same after a while.

It was again quite easy to walk towards Rinnekoti. On the way we stopped at Suur-Helsinki golf center, where we again filled the water bottles. We also bought pizza rolls and some juice and they tasted very good. After a short walk we got to a narrow forest path for the first time.

We considered about spending the night at Käärmelampi, because there is a small manmade shelter for sleeping. However, there was still light for quite a long time and someone was already at the shelter, so we decided to continue walking. At this point we could feel the walking on our feet and ankles, and we had to be careful with the steps.

The only part of the route that was not well marked on the nature was on the north side of Saarisuo in Vihti. We had to check the map a couple of time to be sure which way to go. I should write Vihti about it, because except this part it is possible to walk the route without a map.

When we got closer to Salmi outdoor centre our feet begun to weight more on each step. We were thinking weather we would find a place to sleep close to the Salmi cabin or if we should walk a few hundred meters further at a cooking shelter. When we got to Salmi, we started to look around for a possible place to sleep. We saw a sign to a lakeside sauna and decided to check the porch. It was just perfect for us.

My sister got a place on the bench. I pulled two carpets on the top of each other and put my mattress and sleeping bag on them. When we had changed to the sleeping clothes, sport underwear and micro fleece, we ate a good meal, took care of the blisters on our feet and stretched. When we were stretching, two guards came to check that the doors are locked. They just said kindly hello and went on their way.

The night was just like the first nights on my earlier hikes, waking up on time to time because of the hard floor, birds and the light summer night. When we wake up in the morning, we were not too excited to go on. We got a nice surprise when the personnel of the outdoor centre came to open the door of a warm dressing room and we could change our clothes and pack our bags there.

After leaving the lakeside sauna we decided to check if we could get water on the area. We found a water faucet and again we had fresh water.

Högbackasta Haukkalammen luontotuvalle reitti on metsäpolkua.

Our feet were not as light as they were a day before. It was clear that we would not be able to walk to Pirttimäki. The question was if we would get in a bus in Högbacka, on the crossing of a road to Haukkalampi or in Solvalla. It was quite easy to walk to Högbacka on a narrow road, so we decided to go on.

After Högbacka the route was a narrow forest path. Both of us stumbled quite a lot, much because of being tired. We realized that the risk of getting injured had increased very much.

After Purola on the stairs of Nahkiaispolku a group of students came from the opposite direction. We wanted to let them come down first before we would climb up. It turned out that there were so many students, that we could not wait for all of them. Luckily we could pass on the stairs. The guide of the Haukkalampi guide hut told us that there were total of 400 students on the area.

After eating we checked the bus timetable and headed for Solvalla. We could have stopped on the half way, but despite of the aching feet and tiredness we just had to get to Solvalla. We waited the bus for 20 minutes and stretched and putt on warmer clothes in the meanwhile.

My sister called mother, who checked a train from Espoo for us and then came to get us from Kirkkonummi railway station. She told as that there was a warmed up sauna waiting for us and promised to make food. We have wonderful parents.

The warmth of the sauna was just what our muscles needed. I can not remember when I have enjoyed the sauna as much as I did now. When I got to shower I started to feel very ill. Probably body fluids and nutrients were not in balance and the changes of temperatures did not help at all. My sister had got us for the journey some drinks, that are contain a big portion of daily nutrients and advised to have one of those. I did that and then lied down. After a short nap I felt much better and enjoyed the food that mother had made.

When I got home I could not stay up very long time and went to sleep already at 9.30, which is very early for me. And I slept very well.

Today has been a good day considering all the exercise of the previous days. I have clearly tensed my shoulders, because I had a bad headache already in the morning. I have been thirsty all day and my feet have been swollen, but my muscles have been feeling much better than I thought they would. I have been able to work, although I have been more tensed than usual. I will be taking tomorrow easy, but maybe on Friday I will walk a little more.

Yesterday and today I have been saying that I am not up to walking the rest of the route just yet. But now, even that I can still feel the effect of the walk in my feet, I am starting to think that someday I could walk the remaining tens of kilometers…

Kotona! (Home sweet home!)

Ihanaa olla kotona! Reitti 2000:lta tuli käveltyä noin vajaan 70 kilometrin matka, eilen noin 50 km ja tänään noin 16 - 17 km. Eilen siskon kanssa aloitimme Pasilan asemalta, josta kävelimme reitin alkupisteeseen Laaksoon.

Home sweet home! My sister and I walked maybe a little less than 70 km (43,5 miles) of the route 2000, yesterday about 50 km (31 miles) and today about 16 – 17 km (10 – 10,5 miles). Yesterday we started from Pasila railway station, from which we walked to the starting point in Laaakso.

Reitti kulkee hyvin monenlaisissa paikoissa. Tämä kuva on Vantaan Silvolasta.

The landscape of the route varies a lot. This picture is from Silvola in Vantaa.

Huilasimme hetken Myymäen lenkkipolun varressa.

We had a short brake in Myyrmäki by the jogging track.

Alitimme Kehä III.:n Varistossa.

We walked under the Kehä III road in Varisto.

Kuljimme kauniin Saaren Musta -nimisen järven rannalta.

This is the beautifu Saaren Musta lake.

Yövyimme tällä Salmen ulkoilumaja rantasaunan verannalla.

We spent the night on this veranda of the lakeside sauna at Salmi outdoor centre.

Aamulla oli ihana auringonpaiste.

The morning was beautiful.

We ended our journey in Solvalla Espoo.

I will tell more about the trip later, now I have to go to sleep. Thank you for the company, Anu. Thank you for taking care of Geena and for warming up the sauna for us, when we got back, mom and dad. I can not remember, when I have enjoyed so much about the warmth of the sauna.

Reitti 2000 (Route 2000)

Tiistaina palaamme kotiin.

Reitin alkupiste on Helsingin Laaksossa, josta kuljetaan keskuspuistoa pitkin Paloheinän kautta Vantaalle.

Meidän tavoite on päästä mahdollisimman pitkälle.

A year or two ago my sister and I had an idea, which we decided to make happen someday. That day very close now. On Monday morning we will start walking the Route 2000, which is in the areas of Helsinki, Vantaa, Espoo and Vihti. The total length of the route is 110 km on the paths, roads and mountain bike routes. We will get back home on Tuesday.

Our goal is to walk as far as possible. We will spend the night somewhere on the way and continue in the morning. The route is so long, that anything can happen. I hope we will not face any accidents or get bad blisters.

Ulkoiluvappu (Labor Day outdoors)

The weather of the Labor Day was just perfect! Like many other people, I believe, I spent most of the day outdoors. Geena and I took a bus right after 9 o’clock, changed the bus couple of times and found ourselves in the Pirttimäki hut. From there we hiked via Luukki hut to Lahnus, about 10 km. In Luukki we had our lunch. Geena got her own dog snack and I had a sandwich with smoked salmon. Geena got a tiny bit of the fish, too. In Luukki there was a group of people with dogs, and they were obviously training tracking.

The hike was not enough for us – or for me, that is. We walked also from my parent’s house to my sisters with her and her dogs (five more kilometers). On the half way Geena told us that she had had enough of walking for that day, so we slowed down. Geena got a well deserved relaxing massage, when we got to my sisters.

The nature is so beautiful this time of the year! The path sides are full of flowers (anemone nemorosa and hepatica nobilis), the trees are just getting or have just got leafs and the land gets greener every minute. The sounds of birds and streams and the sun shine crown it all.

Geena thinks that both the sea and lake waters are warm enough for swimming. However, she did not spend too long time in the water. My mother talked about maybe trying to swim at the summer cottage this weekend. Hrrr, I think that the water must still be too cold.

I will download some pictures tomorrow.

Talvi tuli! (It's winter now!)

Olen muuten aloittanut Wabisabi –huivin. Laitan siitä huomenna tänne kuvan.

At last we have winter in southern Finland! Who would have thought, that the best possibilities for cross country skiing would be on the last week of March, at the same time with my winter vacation. I went skiing to Oittaa, sat a good time in sauna and then ate a just baked cinnamon roll with a cup of tea. What a wonderful vacation day!

However, I will have to clean up today, because I will get my new bed tomorrow. At least I hope I will. I should have received a SMS about the delivery time today, but I never got it. Well, I will call to the seller in the morning for getting confirmation of the delivery. I do not want to sleep in the old awful bed any longer than I really have to.

I have started to knit the Wabisabi scarf. I will insert a picture of it here tomorrow.

Suloinen lankapuoti (Lovely yarn shop)

Today I went to see a yarns shop in Hakaniemi Helsinki called Vihreä vyyhti. I had previously found a couple of products on their web site, which I had to get for both my secret pal and me. I’ll tell more about the products after the secret pal season. The service was very kind and the lady even promised to mail me a product that was not available today.

During the same visit to Helsinki I stopped at a large book store too to find a travel guide for my trip to Kranjska Gora in the summer. Well, I bought more than I had planned. In addition to that Slovenia guide I bought a hiking guide for Julian Alps and a combined map of Slovenia and Ljubljana. The excursion destinations have been located, but more studying must still be done. It was nice to hear that the saleswoman had been in the same place. She had liked the country, destination and local people very much.

Otherwise the last days have been quite boring, since I got the cold on Tuesday. It’s mostly runny nose, but also makes me tired. I have knitted hardly at all. The cross country skiing part of Kalevan kierros is tomorrow, but I will not take part in that. I keep my fingers crossed for the GSK team!

Luistelun tuloksia (Results of skating)

Melkein unohdin kertoa, miten Kalevan Kierroksen luistelu meni.

I almost forgot to tell about the skating of Kalevan Kierros. The route had been shortened and moved to be more on the center of the lake, because there was some wather on the ice by shore. We, who participate the half distances, skated 3 x 6 km round, 18 km all together. My time was one of the slowest, because I spent a little more than 1 h and 1 min on the route. I am still happy with the result, becouse it has been a year since I last skated, and I did not even fall once.

And yes, there was strong nature ice at Rantasalmi. It hold very well all the skaters and some cars, too.

Luistelemaan (Skating)

Kalevan kierros begins day after tomorrow in Rantasalmi with skating. I bought the freeheel iceskates and suitable shoes on monday - quite a short time before the event, but it does not matter, since it has not been possible to practise here, because the sea has not freezed this winter. My new shoes are very pretty, they have curley branch like figures on them. Yes, vanity got a hold of me, when I saw the beautiful shoes.

The weather forecast for saturday is about +1...2 degrees of Celsius and some light rain. The experts are predicting that the ice will be very slipery.

Kesäloma... (summer vacation...)

Luvassa on muun muassa patikointia viitenä päivänä viikon aikana.

Yippii - I have booked a trip for summer!

There was a travel fair in Helsinki a bit over a week ago. I went there to spend time on Saturday, but I think you will guess wath happend... One (and you only need one) travel agency offered so wonderful vacations, that there was no way to say no. However, I did sleep the night and decided the destination on the next day and booked it on Monday.

I will travel to Kranjska Gora Slovenia in the southern part of the Alps (http://www.kranjska-gora.si/index.php?l=3). It is better known as a skiing destination or as a part of alpine skiing world cup tour. There will be hiking on five days a week. One night will be spent on a mountine hut, from where we will climb to the top of the highest mountine of the country, Triglav, to see the sunrise. There might be a possibility for rafting, too.

Many things will depend of the weather during the vacation. After visiting Garmisch-Partenkirchen on the summer of 2006 I dare to say, that a heavy shower can sometimes be refreshing. However, I do hope that the air will be good enough to climb up the 2852 meters high Triglav.

Kalevan kierros

Suunnistussäästä en osa saanoa, koska olin silloin Hamarissa Norjassa.

Innolla jo odotan pääsyä mukaan matkoille - saa nähdä, miten käy! Tässä vielä linkki, josta löytyy rupeamasta lisätietoja: http://www.kalevankierros.fi/

Ok, here I go again. I promised to take part in half distances of Kalevan kierros this year, too, with a group from work. Last year I took part for the first time, when my fellow worker encouraged me. All went well enough, so I'm not afraid to do it again. However, I'm not in as good condition as last year, and that slightly worries me.

This is the schedule with half distances:

2 February, skateing on the ice af a lake at Rantasalmi, 20 km (12.43 miles)
15 March, cross-country skiing at Vuokatti, 30 km (18.65 miles)
24 May, half marathon at Somero, 21,1 km (13.11 miles)
28 June, rowing at Lohja, 25 km (15.54 miles)
9 August, bicycling at Pori, about 60 km (37.29 miles)
27 September, orienteering at Hinnerjoki, 12 km (7.46 miles)

Last year during the skateing the air temperature was -25 degrees of Celsius (-13 F). During the cross-country skiing it was some degrees over the zero (over 32 F), so the snow was melting and during the bicycling it was very hot. The weather for running was nice, it rained a bit, which cooled the skin and made it easier to breath. The wind was calm and there were some clouds when we were rowing, which made the work a lot easier on the open waters. The weather during the orienteering is unknown to me, because I was in Hamar Norway at the time.

I'm already exited about this years challenges, we'll see how it goes! You will find more information about Kalevan kierros here (in Finnish): http://www.kalevankierros.fi/
